Digital Impressions & 3D Printing
What are Digital Impressions?
Digital impressions (also known as 3D intraoral scanning) are the latest technology for capturing a replica of the mouth. We use Emerald scanner from Planmeca to get digital impressions of your mouth (see video below).
This is accomplished by using a small wand that is connected to a computer. The scan of your teeth and gum tissue is recorded, and a 3D model is created on the computer. Dr. Nodesh will use this virtual model of your mouth to diagnosis and plan for surgery, and fabricate crowns, bridges, digital dentures, retainers, and other appliances.
What are the Benefits of Digital Impressions?
Digital impressions are more convenient and pleasant than the goopy traditional mold material. A digital impression is also the best option for a patient who has a severe gag reflex.
Digital impressions can be stored on the computer for a long time. In some cases, when you lose your nightguard, bleaching tray, retainers, or other oral appliance, the existing impression may be used to replace them. You may not need to have another impression made; your dental specialist may use the digital impression to order a new appliance for you.
Do digital impressions hurt?
Dental impressions are quick and convenient. You do not have to keep your mouth open constantly and struggle to breathe. The procedure lasts only a few minutes.
