DIGITAL AND 3D X-RAYS

DIGITAL AND 3D X-RAYS

Using the most advanced technology is just as important as staying up to date on the latest treatment techniques. Because our practice is dedicated to providing you with the safest and most convenient treatment options, we utilize advanced digital X-Ray and imaging technology in our office.

Digital X-Rays provide several advanced imaging options designed to save time and provide clear, precise images with less radiation than traditional X-Ray technology.

WHAT IS A DENTAL CONE BEAM CT?

Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of X-ray technology used in situations where regular dental or facial X-rays are not sufficient, or if the patient has a strong gag reflex.

This type of X-ray scanner uses a special technology to generate three-dimensional images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths, and bone in the craniofacial region with minimal radiation in a few seconds — all in a single scan.

Images obtained with CBCT allow for more precise treatment planning. They create a 3D model of your craniofacial and oral structures on the computer for accurate diagnosis and precise treatment planning.

CBCT provides detailed images of the bone and is performed to evaluate diseases of the jaw, dentition, bony structures of the face, nasal cavity, and sinuses.

WHAT ARE SOME COMMON USES OF CBCT IMAGING?

● Dental cone beam CT is commonly used for treatment planning of oral facial complex
● Accurate placement of dental implants
● Surgical planning for impacted teeth
● Diagnostic aid in temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)
● Evaluation of the jaw, sinuses, nerve canals, and nasal cavity
● Detecting, measuring, and treating jaw tumors
● Determining bone structure and tooth orientation
● Locating the origin of pain or pathology
● Cephalometric analysis for orthodontic treatment
● Reconstructive surgery
● Orthognathic surgery

WHAT ARE BENEFITS OF CBCT?

● CBCT has the advantage of lower radiation exposure compared to conventional CT.
● CBCT takes images in a matter of seconds.
● The focused X-ray beam reduces scatter radiation, which results in better image quality.
● A single scan produces a wide variety of views and angles that can be manipulated to provide a more complete evaluation.
● CBCT scans provide more information that conventional dental X-ray, and allow for more precise treatment planning.
● CBCT is painless, noninvasive, and accurate.
● A major advantage of CBCT is its ability to capture bone and soft tissue at the same time.

DIGITAL IMPRESSIONS & 3D PRINTING

WHAT ARE DIGITAL IMPRESSIONS?

Digital impressions (also known as 3D intraoral scanning) are the latest technology for capturing a replica of the mouth. We use Emerald scanner from Planmeca to get digital impressions of your mouth (see video below).

This is accomplished by using a small wand that is connected to a computer. The scan of your teeth and gum tissue is recorded, and a 3D model is created on the computer. Dr. Nodesh will use this virtual model of your mouth to diagnosis and plan for surgery, and fabricate crowns, bridges, digital dentures, retainers, and other appliances.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DIGITAL IMPRESSIONS?

Digital impressions are more convenient and pleasant than the goopy traditional mold material. A digital impression is also the best option for a patient who has a severe gag reflex.

Digital impressions can be stored on the computer for a long time. In some cases, when you lose your nightguard, bleaching tray, retainers, or other oral appliance, the existing impression may be used to replace them. You may not need to have another impression made; your dental specialist may use the digital impression to order a new appliance for you.

DO DIGITAL IMPRESSIONS HURT?

Dental impressions are quick and convenient. You do not have to keep your mouth open constantly and struggle to breathe. The procedure lasts only a few minutes.

PERIOLASE® AND CO2 LASER

SAFE AND EFFECTIVE GUM TISSUE RESTORATION

From the simplest of procedures to the most complex, we are dedicated to your comfort. Our goal is to offer a wide array of gentle treatments that promote healthy teeth and gums in a way that feels good for you, our patient.

WHAT IS PERIOLASE LANAP?

PerioLase Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) is the latest technology used for safe and effective gum tissue restoration and periodontal tissue therapy. In 2004, PerioLase received FDA approval, which made it the only approved dental laser on the market.

Differing greatly from traditional periodontal surgery, PerioLase creates a sterile and stable environment where bone and tissue are able to grow back together. If you have periodontitis, you know that your gums (or connective tissue) pull away from the tooth to create pockets. The pockets become deeper as the disease progresses, which leads to bone loss.

Traditional perio-therapy involves a doctor scraping out the inside of the pockets, while trying to avoid bone loss since the infected bone will not grow back. Using PerioLase, our team is able to create an environment where your body can regenerate itself. Your gums will reattach to the tooth; in fact, it is proven that PerioLase is the only laser to have a 100% success rate in tissue reconstruction.

HOW DOES PERIOLASE WORK TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF MY SMILE?

Before we begin your LANAP procedure, your teeth are thoroughly cleaned to remove any tartar in an effort to make the tissue as healthy as possible. During your treatment, the dentist uses the PerioLase laser to find any diseased tissue in the pockets created by periodontitis. The laser kills pathogens (the bacteria which cause the disease) without harming the good cells.

WHAT IS RECOVERY FROM PERIOLASE TREATMENT LIKE?

Following your procedure, you will experience less swelling or bleeding, and more comfort than with traditional periodontitis surgery. Recovery time is also faster, so you return to your daily activities sooner. LANAP provides a pleasant dental experience and better outcomes than any other conventional periodontal surgery.

HOW DO I KNOW IF PERIOLASE IS RIGHT FOR ME?

If you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, you are most likely a candidate for PerioLase. Consult with our office to discuss in detail.

PerioLase is a safe alternative to conventional surgery for people who suffer from other health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, or anyone who might be pregnant. PerioLase may be recommended if you have had periodontal treatment in the past and are experiencing symptoms again.

Once you have had gum disease, it is common to experience a relapse. Consider PerioLase as a safe alternative to traditional periodontal surgery, and ask us if PerioLase LANAP is the best option for you.

DEKA ULTRA SPEED C02 LASER

A CO2 laser is a very efficient, fast-cutting light beam that seals nerve endings, kills bacteria, and is blood-free. The use of the Deka Ultra Speed CO2 laser enables us to perform several soft tissue surgeries with no cutting, bleeding, or sutures.

This laser can also be used for biopsy, ablation of pre-cancerous lesion, removal of hyperplastic tissue, and cosmetic re-contouring (gingivoplasty) of the gingiva.

INTRAORAL CAMERA

A CLEAR VISION OF YOUR DENTAL HEALTH

You know the importance of prevention when it comes to your dental health. We’re always looking for new, improved ways to help you achieve a healthy smile for life. Although X-rays provide valuable information, they don’t give a complete view of everything going on in your mouth.

With an intraoral camera, we can see every facet of your teeth and mouth with incredible detail, uncovering cracked teeth, plaque deposits, cavities next to fillings, and excessive wear. When we can discover oral problems early on, your treatment is much less invasive and much more cost-effective.

Our intraoral camera is small, about the size of the mirror we use during your regular hygiene appointments. You probably wouldn’t even notice we’re using it. You will have the opportunity to see on a monitor every detail we see through the intraoral camera.

This is a great tool to help you become more informed about your dental health, because it gives you a clear understanding of your teeth’s condition, and allows you to make a more informed and educated decision with regard to your treatment options.

What our patients are saying
Dr. Raina has been an outstanding orthodontist for me! I needed upper and lower braces as an adult and she made the entire process a fantastic experience! The entire office staff is so kind, patient, and personable! Another plus is having my dentist, Dr. Nodesh, in the same office so cleanings and routine dental checkups could overlap on the same day as orthodontic appointments.
